Updating to Vista SP1? Check Your Drivers First!

Ed Bott has written about today’s release of Vista SP1, giving us the following list of blocked drivers. Check this driver list carefully, remember “measure twice, cut once” or in techno speak “wait until someone else installs it and gets the final bugs out before you install it.” I’d wait for about a month or two before even thinking about do the SP1 install. Please read the full article by following the link below to get full information from a trusted expert in the Windows field.

Happy New Year

Another year is gone. Another year with Vista problems, lack of updates, Microsoft not giving users good information.

I have not seen any good updates for the SigmaTel issue in the last 6 months, nor has Microsoft addressed them. Hopefully in the new year we will have a breakthrough with Vista SP1.

Updated SigmaTel Drivers for Vista

RealTek, Dell and Gateway have updated their drivers as of June 15th, 2007. Please click the following links to their respective sites:

  1. Gateway SigmaTel Vista Drivers
  2. Dell SigmaTel Vista Driver
  3. RealTek HD Audio Codec SigmaTel Vista Drivers

I also found a Sony Vaio driver, but you have to check to see if it works with your model Vaio and your version of Vista. After going to the Sony download page, input your model and find the driver in the list about three quarters of the way down the page. Click “See More” to bring up the actual driver download page. On this page you can click the “See all applicable models and Operating Systems.” See the picture below…

Please look at each driver carefully before downloading to see if it matches your computer model and BIOS (especially important for Dell drivers).

SigmaTel Drivers and PC Manufacturers

Update: I recently checked for newer drivers and found some, along with a few for Sony Vaio laptops. Check out the links here

Some searching has come up with the following SigmaTel drivers for Vista:

  1. Gateway – The first & third drivers on the list
  2. Intel Motherboards
  3. Dell – The first four drivers

Please carefully check the computer models and motherboards to insure that you are downloading the proper drivers. Before installing the new drivers you should first uninstall the drivers already on your system, reboot your computer and then install the new drivers.
