So, it’s Christmas Eve in the US and I’m all tucked in with my family watching the Polar Express. Okay, it’s for my 3 year old, but it is fun to do things like this. If you haven’t already done it, stop by the NORAD tracking of Santa. My daughter loves it and I’m all the kiddies will too.
Enjoy your holiday and if you like the coziness of a fireplace try the Yule Logs for your PC.

I have an 18 month old daughter, so I’ve read with interest the developing story of the Connecticut father that killed his neighbor after he learned from his wife that his 2 year old daughter had been abused by the neighbor. ABC news has an article “What Would You Do? Parents’ Worst Nightmare”. It’s an interesting article and shows what most parents feel when confronted with this issue.
What would you do if this happened to your daughter or son? My first feelings would be that I would want to do exactly what this parent has done. The man does not deserve to live, but that is not for me to decide. We have laws, and courts to decide for us. We all know the inmates in our prisons do not take kindly to child molesters. So his life would not be an enjoyable one if he was convicted.
That brings up another point, would there have been a conviction when the victim can’t really communicate it to adults in a manner that would prove reasonable doubt for a conviction? You would hope that any reasonable jury would see the evidence in a light that they could provide a good decision. An adult can lie very easily, a 2 year old isn’t far enough along in development to premeditate and formulate a lie, especially of this heinous nature.
My daughter is my soul, my life….She is innocent, she cannot fend for herself. She knows mommy and daddy love her, will comfort her, will be there when she cry’s. She should not have to go through a situation of abuse of any type. While I can understand the feelings of this father and his desire to exact justice, I cannot condone it as the right or moral thing to do. Maybe we need stronger laws for child molestation. Maybe the death penalty? Trust our justice system, trust God to direct them to a proper verdict.
That’s what I think….What about you?

Apple Computers has announced a recall on 1.8 million batteries from Sony today. Let’s add that to the 4.1 million Dell batteries and we have the grand total of 5.9 million batteries recalled in the last two weeks. Add that to the 135,000 HP batteries recalled in October 2005 and the Apple recall of 128,000 in May 2005. Do I smell a fire burning somewhere?
It makes me think twice about sitting my laptop in my lap at home while I’m working. You would think that we would have a little better safety testing or I don’t know maybe some R & D on these batteries to see what can be done to make them safer. Of course all of the battery recalls above are from Asian companies, mainly Sony, while all have been made in Taiwan, China and South Korea. Cheap companies using cheap labor strikes again. Apple just this week admitted that one of the factories that it uses to make ipods in Asia wasn’t following proper labor guidelines. You have to figure that something is up with the quality at this point.
A statement needs to be made to these companies that they need to do a better job in quality control or someday someone is really going to get hurt. Then they will be paying millions more than they would have if they had just made a safe, quality product and charged a few dollars more for it in retail.
That’s what I think….What about you?

Okay, my Dad told me to never discuss politics or religion in public…Sorry Dad, I can’t resist. Today, in a victory for the First Amendment, Detroit based U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor ruled the NSA warrantless wiretapping program approved by President (I can do whatever I want because I’m President) George W. Bush was unconstitutional. Golly Gee, we already had a special court for the President that could get legal warrants for wiretaps and he thinks that Congress gave him the right to circumvent our constitution after 9/11.
I’m sorry, but the guy is reaching. President Bush needs to remember that he’s not in Texas anymore, while at the same time he should be taking off those rose colored glasses that he seems to be wearing. Has he not seen his approval rating lately? Has he not heard that a majority of the American people think that he is wrong and has overstepped his authority? But, I can’t put it any better than Judge Taylor:
The terrorist surveillance program, Taylor ruled, violates the First Amendment’s right to freedom of expression and the Fourth Amendment right to privacy–that is, freedom from unreasonable searches. It also ignores requirements of a 1978 electronic wiretapping law known as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) and represents an overstepping of presidential powers, she wrote.
“There are no hereditary kings in America and no powers not created by the Constitution,” the judge wrote, dismissing the Bush administration’s argument that the warrantless program falls within the president’s inherent wartime powers as commander in chief.
You can read more in any newspaper or online source, but I liked the blog, Federal judge orders halt to NSA spy program | Tech News on ZDNet from where the quote of Judge Taylor comes.
I believe in free speech, the constitution and our right to privacy. I don’t know if the folks running the White House do.
That’s what I think….What about you?
